Para Tertiary Butyl Phenol is an intermediate organic aromatic compound prepared by acid-catalyzed alkylation of phenol with isobutene in the presence of zinc chloride or with tert-butanol in sulfuric acid as catalyst. PTBP is a member of the class of phenols that is substituted with a tert-butyl group at position 4.

Uses & Applications

  • Polymer and Resin Industry:

PTBP is used as a terminator to control the molecular weight of  Polycarbonates during the manufacturing process.

PTBP is also used in the manufacturing process PTBP formaldehyde resin for surface coating applications which has an end use as tackifier for synthetic Rubber and as an adhesives in tyre industry.

  • Cosmetics and Personal Care Products:

PTBP is an important raw material in the perfume industry. 

  • Others:

PTBP can be used as UV absorbent, anti-chaps for pesticide, rubber, coatings and as an effective antioxidant for lubricating oil.
